Operations Manager - Metal Mines

Home-based | Closing date: 4 October | Interviews: 13 October

What if your next role could combine operational leadership, environmental protection and some of the most spectacular landscapes in the UK?

Every day, our mine water treatment schemes protect rivers, wildlife and communities from the legacy impacts of historic mining.

We’re looking for an Operations Manager – Metal Mines to manage a portfolio of schemes across England and Wales, helping them run safely, efficiently and effectively while delivering long-term environmental benefits.

About you

You’ll enjoy solving practical challenges, working with contractors and partners, and making sound decisions in a complex operational environment.

You may come from utilities, water, environmental management, engineering, infrastructure, asset management or another operationally focused sector.

What matters most is your ability to lead collaboratively, build strong relationships and deliver positive outcomes.

About the role

In this role, you’ll manage the operation and maintenance of mine water treatment schemes and associated assets, initially in the Pennines and Lake District, with potential to support other areas in future.

You’ll act as Service Manager under an NEC4 Term Service Contract, working closely with contractors, regulators, technical specialists and project teams.

You’ll oversee safe, compliant and efficient operations, manage budgets, contracts and risks, and support improvement projects that optimise scheme performance.

You’ll also build trusted relationships with organisations including the Environment Agency, Defra and Natural Resources Wales, helping shape how current and future schemes deliver lasting benefits for rivers, communities and ecosystems.

If you’re passionate about making a tangible difference to the environment, enjoy working with a wide range of people and want to see the direct impact of your work, we’d love to hear from you.
