Position: Clinical Lead Nurse

Salary: £40,000/ annum

Shift Pattern: FT Day (24 hrs clinical & 12 hrs Supernumerary)

Location: Canterbury CT2

Job Purpose

To provide clinical leadership and oversight within the nursing home, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and person-centred care.

The Clinical Lead Nurse is responsible for maintaining clinical standards, supporting and developing the nursing and care teams, and ensuring compliance with NMC standards, CQC regulations, and organisational policies.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Lead and oversee all clinical practice within the home
  • Act as a clinical role model, promoting best practice and evidence-based care
  • Support nurses in clinical decision-making and escalation of concerns
  • Ensure effective clinical handovers and continuity of care
  • Deputise for the Registered Manager as required

Resident Care & Clinical Governance

  • Oversee comprehensive assessments, care planning, and risk management
  • Monitor residents’ physical and mental health, ensuring timely escalation and review
  • Ensure safe medicines management in line with NMC guidance and company policy
  • Lead on wound care, pressure ulcer prevention, and infection control
  • Oversee end-of-life care, ensuring dignity and compassion

Staff Management & Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and support Registered Nurses and senior care staff
  • Support induction, preceptorship, and ongoing competency assessments
  • Identify training needs and support professional development
  • Manage clinical performance, conduct supervision, and support appraisals

Compliance, Quality & Safeguarding

  • Ensure compliance with CQC Fundamental Standards and internal audits
  • Lead clinical audits and implement quality improvement plans
  • Act as a safeguarding lead, escalating concerns appropriately
  • Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping at all times
  • Manage and investigate incidents, complaints, and near misses

Communication & MDT Working

  • Liaise with GPs, district nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and other professionals
  • Communicate effectively with residents and families, providing reassurance and information
  • Participate in MDT meetings and external reviews

Person Specification

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (RGN / RMN / RNLD) with a valid NMC PIN
  • Significant post-registration experience in a nursing home or similar setting
  • Strong knowledge of CQC regulations, safeguarding, and clinical governance
  • Proven leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and documentation skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience as a Clinical Lead, Deputy Manager, or Senior Nurse
  • Experience leading audits and quality improvement initiatives
  • Knowledge of dementia care and end-of-life care pathways
