Technical Operations Manager - Solar farms

Role

Climate17 are supporting a leading European renewable energy company operating as an independent power producer who are focused on the development, ownership, and long-term operation of solar PV and energy storage assets across the UK and Republic of Ireland.

They are actively searching for a Technical Operations Manager to oversee the safe, compliant, and high-performing operation across their portfolio of operational solar assets.

Responsibilities
 

  • Act as the technical authority for solar PV operations across the portfolio
  • Oversee HV and LV operations, including switching, isolation, and system control
  • Drive optimal plant performance through proactive monitoring and maintenance strategies
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of SCADA and asset management systems
  • Coordinate planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and corrective works in line with SLAs
  • Manage subcontractors and service providers to ensure high-quality O&M delivery
  • Oversee onboarding of new assets, including inspections, snagging, and remediation
  • Implement predictive maintenance (PdM) strategies to minimise downtime and improve performance
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical, regulatory, and safety standards
  • Maintain and promote a strong Health & Safety culture across all sites
  • Work with Authorising Engineers to ensure HV compliance and governance
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Provide regular reporting on asset performance, maintenance activities, and risks
  • Collaborate with engineering, commercial, and analytics teams to optimise outcomes
  • Mentor and develop engineers and technicians, particularly in HV competencies
  • Support training and progression of Authorised Persons
  • Promote operational best practices and continuous improvement

Requirements
 
  • Proven experience in solar PV operations and maintenance (utility-scale preferred)
  • Strong background in HV operations (ideally up to 132kV)
  • Experience managing contractors and/or engineering teams
  • Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) is advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to improve asset performance and operational efficiency
  • Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • HV Authorised Person (SAP/AP) or equivalent certification
  • Inspection & Testing qualification (e.g.

    C&G 2391 or equivalent) preferred
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work autonomously in a remote environment
  • Commercial awareness with understanding of O&M contracts
