Consultant Physician - General Medicine

  • General medicine role with subspecialty interests encouraged
  • Opportunity to progress into Head of Department over time
  • Broad acute and inpatient casemix within a supportive regional service

Where you’ll be working
You’ll be joining a well-established sub-regional public health service that is the primary provider of acute and community healthcare across a large rural catchment.

The service delivers 24/7 emergency care, inpatient medical services, critical care, operating theatres and a range of sub-acute and community programs across multiple campuses.

Acute services include a full time emergency department, critical care unit, neonatal critical care unit, three operating theatres, day procedure unit and oncology and dialysis services in addition to general medical and services and sub-acute services including rehabilitation.

The Medical Services Unit comprises specialty units such as ICU / CCU, Cardiology, Oncology, Renal Dialysis, Emergency Department, Aged Care & Rehabilitation, Respiratory and sleep medicine.

The 6 bed ICU / CCU provides ventilation and hemofiltration.

The junior workforce comprises Interns and Physician trainees on rotation from subregional and Melbourne hospitals.

The hospital is also a teaching hospital, affiliated with Monash University's School of Rural Health and provides placements and clinical experience for students.

The service values collaborative practice and provides an environment where experienced physicians can influence service development, mentor junior doctors and contribute to clinical governance.

For senior clinicians, there is genuine scope to grow into a Head of Department role and help shape the future direction of general medicine.

Subspecialty interests in respiratory medicine, rheumatology or endocrinology are highly desirable.

Where you’ll be living

This role is based in a sought after regional centre offering a lifestyle that combines professional satisfaction with balance and affordability.

The area provides access to coastlines, lakes and alpine regions, alongside everyday amenities, cafes, sporting facilities and a strong sense of community.

Families are well supported with a choice of local schools and childcare options, while housing remains significantly more affordable than metropolitan centres.

Commute times are short, and the pace of life allows more time outside of work without sacrificing career progression.

With the city of Melbourne only 2 hours drive away you also have access to all the city action.
