The role
We have an incredibly exciting opportunity to join the Food Alert team in a role that really can make a difference.
Our Environmental Health Manager helps set our position in terms of food and health and safety policy compliance across our client base.
This is a multi-faceted, diverse role that requires liaison with various regulatory and industry bodies such as the Food Standards Agency, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, Institute of Food Science & Technology and UK Hospitality to name but a few along with working with our incredible team of Consultants and Advice Line operatives.
The successful candidate will have the chance to work with some of the most interesting and innovative clients across the hospitality sector, including large branded groups, Michelin starred restaurants and single-site start-ups.
We are looking for an individual who has a strong regulatory background in food safety and health and safety who has the ability to write and review policies, procedures and HACCP documentation along with becoming involved with the management of complex technical queries and challenges and delivering consultancy and some audit visits.
Responsibilities
, Produce Food Alert technical policy and position documentation as and when required.
, Update and maintain Food Alert technical and template documentation on Alert65.
, Lead on the preparation of thought leadership articles and information
, Manage key strategic relationships including UK Hospitality, CIEH, FSA, IFST etc.
, Respond to Government/FSA technical consultations.
, Maintaining the Food Alert technical library.
, Manage and support a team of Technical Consultants, providing advice and guidance, mentoring and development on an ongoing basis.
, Undertake fee-earning work on behalf of Food Alert clients on a 2-day-per-week basis.
This may include audit, client set-ups, troubleshooting, policy work etc.
, Attend client meetings and take a lead role in advising on technical aspects of food safety and H&S.
, Deliver technical updates to the consultancy team at team meetings as required and to maintain the CPD program for consultants.
, Provide mentoring support to members of the team who are completing the CIEH Chartered status program.
, Deliver support to the Technical Consultants, the wider team and clients in regards to technical queries.
, Attend professional seminars and conferences.
, Provide advice and consultancy information for clients.
, Support the sampling and AFP team, specifically with regards to technical sampling queries and Approval of allegations of allergic reactions response letters.
, Attend team meetings.
Your background/skillset
, Relevant technical food safety and health & safety knowledge and experience (usually minimum BSc
Environmental Health or equivalent industry experience plus professional qualifications).
, Technical understanding of HACCP, food safety and H&S management systems
, Knowledge of third-party certification audit schemes including SALSA and BRC.
, Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage own time effectively.
, Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build long-lasting relationships.
, Ability to provide a constructive approach with clients and forge a professional and valued relationship.
, IT: MS Office, CRM, auditing software.
, Conscientious and able to apply a consistent standard and approach.
