Senior Hydrogeologist Mine Heat
About You
Do you have a passion for supporting the delivery of low carbon mine water heat networks?
Do you have significant experience of designing, undertaking and analysing pumping tests in mines?
Do you want to want to work with a dynamic team delivering projects across England, Scotland and Wales?

You will be an qualified hydrogeologist (MSc) with significant experience in field based hydrogeological pumping tests, with a conceptual understanding of mine water systems.
You will have excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills and a real drive to lead the application of this low carbon technology in England, Wales and Scotland.
You will be able to work across Great Britain on various sites where we are supporting clients to deliver mine water heat networks.
Experience of operating in a consultancy based environment would be advantageous but not essential.
Similarly, past experience of project management would be beneficial.
You will need to be competent at using relevant software to interpret pumping tests whilst also being well organised and thorough.
You will be skilled in the analysis of mine plans and interpretation of hydrogeological information.
You will work as part of a small team to deliver a high quality and highly service to our customers.
You will also need to respond positively to guidance from others, and be talented in working on inter-departmental initiatives.

About The Role
The Coal Authority’s Heat and By Product Innovation Team are at the forefront of supporting mine water heat networks in Great Britain.
We work with and develop excellent relationships with a broad range of customers and stakeholders from local authorities to international companies.
We provide advisory services to government and commercial clients and also deliver our own R&D and collaborate with researchers and academics.
We aspire to be the ‘go-to’ organisation for mine water heat and work and promote our work locally, nationally and internationally via technical conferences, written articles and via the media.
As the Senior Hydrogeologist (mine heat) you’ll be:
- Working with the Head of Heat and By Product Innovation to deliver commercial incomes and support clients with the delivery of mine water heat networks
- Leading the technical (physical hydrogeological) understanding of mine water heating, cooling and thermal storage schemes
- Leading the design and analysis of pumping tests to assess thermal capacity of mine water systems
- Supporting other technical staff in the team
- Contributing to developing and managing relationships with clients, partners and stakeholders.
- Promoting the work of the Coal Authority to local, national and international audiences.
