You will manage the environmental compliance of our operations, supporting the business in the delivery of its environmental compliance obligations.
Be the main contact for regulatory liaison, ensuring our permits are relevant, achievable and proportionate.

Using your expertise and knowledge to work across the business (senior managers, operational managers, frontline employees and remote workers), using their specialist knowledge to supplement your own as well as upskilling others so they understand their compliance obligations.

Above all you’ll have excellent technical, communications and engagement skills, with experience of assuring environmental compliance to manage corporate obligations and risks.

About The Role

The sustainability and environmental compliance team is a small team that cuts across the Coal Authority working with all departments to:

  • Deliver our sustainability goals;
  • Advise on and manage our environmental compliance risks; and
  • Manage, review and improve our environmental management policies and processes.
Although small, the portfolio of work is wide and delivered by a large virtual team of people across the organisation.  In order to help make this happen you will need to have excellent people and communication skills, working with many internally and externally to achieve common goals.

The Compliance Manager will be responsible for supporting the Sustainability Manager in monitoring and managing environmental risks across our operations.

This will involve working with closely with the Environmental Systems Manager to ensure we have effective and robust systems and reporting, as well as working with our operational teams to ensure they have the support needed to apply for and comply with environmental permits.

None of us are perfect and therefore all of us have a minimum five days of learning and development in our personal objectives.  Whether that is on the job learning or formal teaching, you’ll be supported to get the tools, knowledge and experience you need to do the job and develop yourself professionally and personally.
