Software Engineering Manager

Software Engineering Manager, West London, £70-80K + 20% Bonus + Bens.

You should have a background as a Software Engineering Manager or Software Delivery Manager, ideally leading 3-6 developers and have experience of working with Software Developers, Test Analysts, Scrum Masters and Product Managers.



The Role:

The Software Engineering Manager reports to a Tribe Lead and is a leading role accountable for the quality and effectiveness of all aspects of software delivery in a cross-functional delivery team (Squad).

Working with software developers, test analysts, scrum masters, automation testers and product managers, this role concentrates on technical delivery of the Squad and line management of the people in the Squad.
The ideal candidate will have a software delivery background as a developer, automation tester or agile delivery manager, and delivery experience, preferably in technical software delivery and Agile ways of working, and is now looking to move into a leadership role.

Responsibilities:

, Lead the software delivery activity in one of our delivery teams (Squad).
, Line management of approx.

3-6 developers (junior, mid level and lead developers).


, Performance review, development and management of those direct reports as well as liaising and relaying information between senior management and other team members.
, Contribute to annual reviews and involved in the recruitment of additional Squad members.
, Contribute to the objective setting of the team and develop operational plans to help the team achieve their goals.
, Report on Squad Performance and delivery, as well as propose options for improvement when either is not as expected.
, Ensure best practice standards for all relevant software engineering disciplines are defined, understood and adopted, throughout the application life cycle.
, Maintain appropriate metrics within their delivery team to enable continuous improvement.
, Take responsibility for resolving issues arising within their Squad and implement corrective action.
, Input innovative approaches to the delivery teams and support the successful adoption of such ideas, driving improved performance.
, Challenge unnecessary complexity of software development within the delivery team, deter-mining and removing the source of the complexity.
, Identify and deal with potential and actual risks across or between all stages of the product life cycle, reducing the incidence of recurring risks.
, Support the Engineering Tribe Leads and Quality Assurance Managers on the most compli-cated risks, issues and dependencies.

Contribute to the community of practice, leading on specific disciplines, tools or methods as required.
, Work closely with the Scrum Master and Product Manager to ensure timely delivery of prod-ucts, resources and prioritisation of the roadmap work is delivered.
, Escalate to the Engineering Tribe Lead where further assistance is required.


, Responsible for onboarding new joiners to the squad and exiting current squad members.

Your Experience:

, Delivery experience preferably in technical software delivery and Agile ways of working
, A passion for people management including motivating, mentoring, coaching and performance management.
, Experience of leading a team and supporting the development of individual team members.
, Experience of delivering highly complex software solutions in a demanding environment across multiple teams (squads) with a large number of users.
, Demonstrable experience of introducing innovative approaches and carrying these to successful adoption
, Knowledge of best practice and methods and experience of implementing these within multi-functional delivery teams.


This Software Engineering Manager role is a hybrid position (2 days a week in the office), based in West London and pays c£70-80K + 20% Bonus, 25 days holiday + 1 extra on your Birthday, annual personal development budget.
