Relief Support Worker

About The Role
Help us to support some of the most vulnerable people in Cornwall as they progress from being homeless, to being supported to being independent.
Exciting opportunity for a Relief Support Worker based in our supported housing service in St Austell
At saha, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive, good quality housing services, support and resettlement for people who are or have recently experienced homelessness and who are in need of support and accommodation.

As a Relief Support Worker you will need to:

  • Get to know and build the trust of our clients
  • Help clients to live independently
  • Encourage participation in social and leisure programmes
  • Support residents with the practicalities of everyday living


About The Candidate
A Relief Support Worker will instinctively share saha’s delivery values and behaviours, loving your work, helping people to thrive and always finding a way to be effective.
You will need to:
  • Be a confident and capable communicator, not fazed by difficult situations
  • Be able to build trusting, professional relationships and have a high level of resilience.
  • Take an asset-based approach to empowering people to develop their skills, strengths and talents.
  • Have good knowledge or experience of working with homeless people, and / or supporting vulnerable people or groups,
  • Understand or learn about community resources and organisations that can help our clients
  • Participate in our 24 hour shift rota system including waking nights shifts.
  • Excellent assessment skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills
  • Organised and able to work on own initiative
  • Able to be creative and proactive
  • Makes a positive contribution to effective team working
  • Problem solving skills and ability to demonstrate flexible working to overcome barriers
  • Able to analyse and produce reports for presentation in a variety of formats
  • A non-judgemental approach to working with homeless people
  • Willingness to work outside of normal hours
  • Able to be flexible on approach to work and adaptable to change
  • A “can do “ approach to working with homeless people
  • A Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Certificate will be required for this role.
You may have experience of the following:
  • Housing association legislation
  • Knowledge of community and volunteer resources
  • Knowledge of supporting people legislation
  • Experience of working in the Integrated Offender management Arena
