Handyperson / Engineering Technician

Immediate start for a engineering technician / handyperson - on-going contract - Edinburgh City Centre  RATE DOE

Maintain and either repair or assist in coordinating the repair of all base- building infrastructure support systems and related equipment without limitation.

Perform such other task from time to time as may be requested.



You will carry out maintenance, repair and refurbishment work within the sites in your area.

You will provide both planned and reactive work.

  • Maintain excellent Client relations through prompt and courteous response to requests within the guidelines set by the client.
  • Available and or to be schedule to work on emergency calls.
  • Providing proactive support and response to all reactive callouts involving building fabric repairs
  • Learn the locations of and the principals of operation, maintained and repair of all building infrastructure support systems.
  • Learn the locations of all critical shut off valves such as cold water, hot water, electrical.
  • Learn all the locations of all the building support systems, so that assistance can be rendered to building in emergency situations
  • Completion of schedule Planned Preventive Maintenance within your appointed area as and when required
  • Perform repair and painting maintenance as directed by the Engineering Manager or work order requested by building personnel
  • Monitors all infrastructure systems, reports on existing problems or potential problems and assists the Engineering Manager in the solutions for these problems;
  • Aids the Engineering Manager in maintaining the proper inventory of essential spare parts and maintenance material for maintenance and repair of common areas and infrastructure systems and requisitions same for purchase by the Engineering Manager before running out of stock.
  • Keep Plant rooms, storage rooms, electrical closets, roof and other common areas of building clean, free of debris and freshly painted condition at all times.
  • Perform all maintenance in a safe, workman-like manner in conformance with first class maintenance trade practices
  • To maintain continuity of all essential site equipment and life safety systems.
  • To carry out planned maintenance of site plant and equipment.
  • To organise the tools, equipment, spares and materials for designated tasks
  • Liaise and plan work in with clients requirements
  • Observation and reporting of plant faults
  • To assist and support other maintenance teams in their work at all times
  • Continuous improvement and customer satisfaction at all times
  • Support in the delivery of the departmental budget



  • Served an appropriate engineering apprenticeship covering mechanical and electrical maintenance.
  • To have a minimum of an ONC or NVQ 3 qualification.

  • To have at least four years related experience.
  • To have supervisory skills.
  • To have working knowledge of site plant, equipment and factory services.
  • To be conversant with relevant Safety, Health and Environment legislation and be able to write work risk assessments.
