The HR Team at the WMCA is growing and we're looking for an HR Advisor to join our dedicated team of HR professionals.

We want to enhance and grow the HR team and provide a real value add service to the Combined Authority.

Reporting to the HR Service Centre Manager, you'll be part of our new HR Service Centre Team made up of HR Advisors and HR Assistants.

The Service Centre is part of a wider HR team which includes HR Business Partners and a Resourcing Team.

You'll provide a proactive and solutions focussed HR service across the organisation on all employment-related matters across the entire employee life cycle.

What will you be doing?

, Act as the first point of contact, providing first-line HR advice and support on all employee life cycle matters; ensuring that advice to managers and staff is in line with HR policies and procedures and best practice
, Supporting managers with drafting, reviewing and updating job descriptions
, ER management of sickness, disciplinary, grievance, capability, and appeal hearings, manage invite letters, hearing packs and supporting managers in less complex ER Meetings
, Management of employee contractual changes, including liaison with Payroll team
, Supporting the Job evaluation process
, Support and upskill managers, to enable them to effectively manage informal issues with staff and provide best practice advice in order to minimise escalation to formal processes.
, Take ownership of enquiries and seek to resolve at first point of contact, identifying urgent and important matters and prioritising accordingly
, Our Finance & Business Hub provides essential high-quality, responsive, and agile enabling services to the West Midlands Combined Authority and its directorates in areas such as human resources, procurement, commercial investments, assurance and appraisal, financial control and administration, and financial and business planning and performance reporting.

About you

You'll have demonstrable experience of working in an HR function where you have provided first-line advice on all employment matters, with some exposure to ER cases.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail is essential.

You'll likely be working in a similar role or be looking to take the next step in your career.
