Power Systems Consultant – Networks, Renewables
Manchester or Glasgow – Hybrid, 3 days a week in-office
Salary – up to £85,000 DOE Plus Benefits + Bonus

Our client is seeking a full-time Power Systems Consultant with both technical expertise and commercial awareness of the GB power system.

This role is ideal for an experienced power systems engineer with a strong background in electricity network modelling and GB network planning/operation.

The successful candidate will be pivotal in shaping the consultancy’s strategic direction while delivering high-quality technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Leadership:

  • Conduct technical studies, including load flow, fault level, harmonic analysis, and dynamic studies of electricity networks, ensuring the successful completion of projects (DIgSILENT, IPSA, PSCAD).
  • Apply expertise in network planning/design, SQSS compliance, and power system modelling for generator connections and strategic reinforcement projects at both distribution and transmission levels.
  • Oversee and manage complex projects from inception to completion.
Team Management & Mentoring:
  • Support the development of junior consultants and team members.
  • Provide line management responsibilities for senior roles.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Knowledge Sharing & Thought Leadership:
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and developments.
  • Represent the company at conferences, seminars, and networking events. 
Requirements
  • Degree/Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years’ relevant industry experience.
  • Proven ability to write technical project reports.
  • Experience in network modelling and analysis using software such as IPSA, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and PSCAD.
  • Strong understanding of the Great Britain transmission and distribution systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong client engagement skills, with the ability to build long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.
Desirable Requirements:
  • Knowledge of Python programming.
  • Experience with both RMS and EMT dynamic simulations of electricity networks.
  • Experience in writing client proposals for both UK and international markets.
  • Background in the Regulatory (Energy) sector.
  • Strong commercial awareness and a proactive approach to business development.
