Mechanical Designer - Precision Engineering - Suffolk

My clients based near the borders of Suffolk, Cambridgeshire & Essex are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer - Precision Engineering / Fibre Optics.

This role is commutable from Cambridge, Saffron Walden, Royston, Dunmow, Braintree, Haverhill, Newmarket, Bury St.

Edmunds.

This organisation designs & manufactures an extensive range of optical fibre based sub-systems with superior hermeticity & optical termination, as well as high efficiency coupling of lases, fibres & detectors.

The successful candidate will be working on the design of fibre optic assemblies, components and tooling to micron level tolerances and will be involved in a good level of documentation database administration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
• Participate in the design and development process of new products – creating necessary component and assembly drawings and BOMs.
• Undertake engineering change activities to drawings, models and BOMS of existing products.
• Administering the design documentation control.
• Define and create BOM and identify part vendors.
• Support the engineering team with the development of prototypes.
• Design jigs and fixtures for manufacturing processes.
• Develop setups and prove prototypes.
• Provide initial product qualification against appropriate standards and quality procedures.
• Support product transfer to production and help with solving initial production issues.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Essential:
• Degree or equivalent experience in mechanical design engineering, product design or a related field.
• Industrial mechanical design and new product development experience.
• Proficient with 3D Cad software.
• Working knowledge of precision component design to micron level tolerances.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
• Working knowledge of material properties and stress analysis.
• Experience identifying and working with tooling and component suppliers to source components necessary to meet requirements of the design.
• Demonstrated teamwork skills in a small company environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to manage several projects through effective planning and time management.

Desirable:
• Experience with fibre optic products development, manufacturing and testing.
• Design for high tolerance machining, plastic moulding, die-casting.


• Proficient with Creo 3D Cad software.

Your current job title may be Mechanical Designer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Mechanical Development Engineer or similar.

Basic salary to c£40k for the right candidate, plus a range of benefits.
