We are looking for Geospatial Analyst/Cartogropher with SC & ideally experience of the DIO/MoD

To provide a geo-data acquisition, management, analysis and dissemination service for geospatial outputs as required by the Geospatial manager in order to satisfy customer requirements and meeting business objectives.

Key areas of responsibility include data management, hard and soft copy plan production, ensuring that all data used is fit for purpose and conforms to standards and liaising with the customer and external contractors.
As a Cartographer based at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, you will work with your colleagues and the Cartographic Manager to help deliver a full range of map and spatial data outputs, as defined in the DA&I Geospatial Services catalogue, to support the management of the MOD estate.

Interpreting the written work requests, you will undertake more detailed customer requirements, ensuring that these are clearly understood, and using these to create and deliver suitable fit-for-purpose products.

The production of maps often follows a tight technical specification, defined either by MOD policy, such as a Safeguarding map, or by the compliance requirements of a third party, such as a Land Registry in England and Wales.

Equally, many tasks are ad-hoc in nature, and will require good cartographic principles to be applied to create a clear and readable map product.

As well as supporting technical day-to-day business processes, some maps will be used for public consultations and presentations.

Significant data preparation and analysis will be necessary for some tasks.

A careful eye must be kept on MOD and third-party copyright agreements.

DA&I is continuing on a journey of challenging and changing customers' traditional working practices by, for example, delivering ?self-help' solutions, where these are appropriate.
With a wide variety of customers using spatial data, the Cartographic team is well placed to identify opportunities for improving ways of working, and taking the first step of identifying and recording what these are.

You will do this by undertaking an initial conversation with the customers, and briefly summarising the requirements.

Subsequently, you will work with the wider DA&I team and the customers to help with the creation of these alternative self-help and other products.

Also, you will work together with the wider DA&I team to demonstrate the functions of the existing Web apps, and other Geospatial products.

A sound understanding, and practical use of the tools, will need to be developed to be able to illustrate the capabilities of the software tools to the customer.

There is currently a sizable disparity between the services provided by DA&I to the UK MOD estate, and that to the International estate.

The role of the Cartographer will be to work with the Cartographic manager and others in DIO, to identify how this will be rectified, and help implement significant changes, with the vision of providing an equal service to all MOD, irrespective of geography.
The bulk of the work currently is referenced to the British National Grid and the Irish National Grid.

However an awareness and application of other co-ordinate systems applicable to the UK and worldwide, will become increasingly necessary.

Working with mainly civilian, but also military customers occasionally, the post holder will have a good range of interpersonal skills, particularly being able to demonstrate a diplomatic, logical, empathetic, but firm approach.
